It’s Thursday, and the Longggggg weekend for memorial day is almost here! Seriously I am so ready for some time off and to do nothing! And by nothing planned this weekend I mean run a half marathon, go to the driving range, celebrate a fantastic girls birthday, hopefully go to the pool ( if it’s nice) and just relax!
Last night was Wednesday ( obviously) and it was BEAUTIFUL out for FREE Bootcamp on the Greenway with CitySports. We have three more Wednesday night classes, so if you were not one of the 100 people who came out last night, then sign up HERE and come to one of the next few classes. Look how happy they look, and healthy! Don’t you want to join them?!? Yes You DO! ( I can’t lie, I had another commitment last night so couldn’t make the class and was bummed but my friend MFA went and documented for me!).
While these fantastically fit people were getting their sweat on, I was eating and cooking at the Hilton Back Bay.
We learned some quick and easy summer appetizers, got to taste some fantastic wines, and enjoy! It was set up as a great team bonding exercise for your clients, friends, family and co workers. If your looking for a great hotel, in the heart of the back bay, or an exciting event to attend I highly suggest a cooking class! You can check out the hotel here. You will not be disappointed, just look at that Mango Salsa!
This morning I slept in ( well until 6 am) which is late for me. Thursday’s are a special day for Little Miss and I as we get to commute to work/ school together. It’s our “us” time and I think I maybe love it more then here. We typically sing at least 1000 rounds of Let it Go, Stop at Dunkins for Munchkins, and chit chat. On special day’s we watch a quick show of Doc McStuffins, Princess Sophia, or facetime with Elmo. Yes you can Facetime with Elmo, no joke it’s a real thing ha. She graduates Pre K this Spring and that mean’s no more commuting buddies, so I am trying to soak all of our time up and enjoy every second. I find myself wanting to freeze her in time at this age, but when I think back I have wanted to freeze her in time at other ages as well, and then I can’t imagine not watching her grow up. ha and a little off tangent on there! But seriously she just makes me laugh so much and brings out the kid in me everyday!
I told her we looked really attractive in this picture, which of course promoted a question ( she needs to know but WHY to everything :)) so I explained attractive meant pretty, which she giggled at knowing we did not look like the “Standard Pretty”. It always makes me stop and think about the words I use in front of her and how I describe beauty to her. It’s really a simple concept in that fact that what I say/ do and other adults in her life shape the way she sees the world. This is a fantastic article on how to talk to little girls. A little excerpt from the article “Teaching girls that their appearance is the first thing you notice tells them that looks are more important than anything,” says Bloom. “I always bite my tongue when I meet little girls, restraining myself from my first impulse, which is to tell them how darn cute/ pretty/ beautiful/ well-dressed/ well-manicured/ well-coiffed they are…It’s our culture’s standard talking-to-little-girls icebreaker, isn’t it?” It’s really worth a read and might help change how you shape some little Misses in your life. You will always be the most beautiful little girl I know little one but I’ll try to remind you that you are so much more then just your looks. You are an athlete, a sister, a daughter, a niece, a jazz dancer, a reader, a speller, a learner, a Spanish speaking, frozen singing, happy, beautiful on the inside and outside kind of kid.
Also if your around Boston this weekend I am running this half. The Run to Remember. The event is to remember our fallen Police hero’s and is on Sunday. They are still looking for Volunteers as the event is sold out, so if you are around it’s a great race and day and way to honor those hero’s. You can sign up to volunteer here. This is one of my favorite half marathons, the course is through Boston an out and back, and it’s an early start ( this year 7am) so you get the whole day to enjoy after!
And in other news today at the office started out as a typical Thursday morning. AKA I was running late, had a sticker in my hair during a morning meeting, and was pretty sure my shirt and shirt were a little too “unkept” but oh well, smile and keep trucking right? Well we had a visitor! The World Series 2013 Boston Red Sox Ring.Okay so the ring didn’t walk itself into our office ha, but it was kindly brought in to brighten our Thursday and let our staffers wear it for a little. It is a HUGE hunk of jewelry! What a cool visit is that! I obviously love the Red Sox, and love the City of Boston, so it really was fun getting to wear this rock today.
And this blog is not meant to be all about what I eat, do at work, and play with Miss A so a little fitness work out for you to enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend. What are your Memorial Day Plans? This work out is great because you can do it at your own pace, and really push yourself when you are feeling tired at the end. It’s also quick, so even on a limited amount of time you can get a great work out in!
